Use These 10 Daily Routine Habits for a Successful Day

We’re going to be talking all season long about planning and creating systems that will set us up for success in all of our endeavors on the podcast, and it had me thinking about one of the biggest things that we can do to boost our motivation each day—which is creating routine habits!

We will dive into the importance of routines and why they work well to help us maintain the motivation that we all need to succeed on Episode 094 of Productivity Paradox this week, but for those of you who are looking to refresh your own daily routines or to simply start a routine altogether, I thought it might be helpful to talk about 10 Routine Habits that have paved the way for some of the most successful people in the world.

Let’s get started!

 

10 Routine Habits for a Successful Day

 

1. Wake Up Early—

Now, I’m sure you all have heard the old adage that the early bird gets the worm… Despite how cliché the advice may sound, there’s a reason that the adage exists: It’s true!

The earlier we wake up, the quicker we are able to get motivated enough to tackle the biggest, most pressing details of our day ahead.

 

2. Meditate / Reflect—

You’ve heard me talk a lot about the importance of meditation, and there is a reason why it works so well when it comes to success: Meditation is a form of self-reflection, and it does wonders when it comes to creating harmony inside of the brain.

Feeling a little more frazzled than usual? Try meditation. Even just 5 or 10 minutes each day—preferably in the morning when you rise—is a great way to reduce your stress while helping you put a positive spin on your day!

 

3. Exercise Regularly—

A lot of us assume that when we are talking about “exercise” it means that we’re talking about spending hours upon hours stuck inside of a stuffy gym. But that’s not true!

Even if you only have 15 or 20 minutes to spend on getting your body up and moving, any little bit of exercise that you can do—in any manner that you’re most comfortable—is a great way to increase your blood flow and get your mind and body prepared for the day ahead.

When in doubt, just remember what Elle Woods from Legally Blonde said: “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy!” …And when we’re feeling energized and happy, it bodes well for how productive (and successful) we are each day.

 

4. Use a Priority List—

Many of the most successful entrepreneurs swear by using a priority list to keep them focused and on track of their big dreams… And this is something that we have talked a lot about on the podcast because I find it true for myself: Creating a priority list each day sets the tone for your day and provides focus necessary for boosting productivity!

5. Practice Gratitude—

A positive spin can come from more than just exercise, of course. We mentioned the importance of journaling and practicing gratitude just last week on Episode 093, but it certainly bears repeating here… because it works!

Practicing gratitude is one surefire way to bring some intentionality to your life each and every day and it’s one of those routine habits that the most successful people maintain to keep them in a positive headspace… which is incredibly important when it comes to productivity!

 

6. Eat Breakfast—

They really aren’t lying when they say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day… And the most successful people in our world understand that to be true.

Our bodies need energy to perform at their best… And that energy comes from the healthy food that we eat for nourishment!

So, before you dash out the door to head to the office in the morning, or before you start in on that big project you’re looking to tackle at home, make sure that you’re giving your body (and your brain) the energy that it needs to be successful from the start.

 

7. Schedule Your Day—

Just as it’s important to keep your eye on the prize with a priority list, it’s equally important that you’re giving yourself the time and space to devote to those priorities in the first place.

When it doubt… plan it out!

 

8. Take Breaks Often—

Remember a while ago back on Episode 082 when we talked about the importance of giving our brains a bit of time away from the hullabaloo of everyday life?

Just as your body might feel sluggish after running a marathon, your brain also experiences fatigue the longer that it works to process information… so it’s important that we allow ourselves just a bit of time to decompress after working on those big projects!

Taking just a 5 or 10-minute break after spending focused time working on a task or big project is a great way to give your brain some space to relax before diving into the next item on your list… and it’s a technique used by top entrepreneurs to help ensure their productivity and success in the future.

 

9. Track Your Progress—

I don’t know about you, but the level of my motivation each morning is a huge implication of how productive I’m able to be throughout the day.

One of the best things that you can do to help boost your spirits and to get yourself motivated to tackle your priorities every day is to take some time to reflect on the progress you’ve already made. Keeping a journal, or even tracking your big goals inside of your planner is a great habit to adopt.

By looking back at how far you’ve come, you’re more likely to rise to the challenge each day and ride the motivation wave through to the achievement of your goals.  

 

10. Read (and Read Often)—

Learning is a lifelong process, and self-development is crucial when it comes to future success. So much so, that studies have actually shown that… the more you read, the more likely you’ll experience more and more success in your career.

Now, that’s not to say that reading a bunch of romance or science-fiction novels are going to set you up for the fast-track at your job as an engineer (let’s say)… but the more you read books specific to your line or work or that are geared toward the success that you do want to see in your life, the more likely it is that you’re setting yourself up for your future in a positive way.

Seems simple enough, right?
