What’s Your Next Career Move? Here’s How to Do it With Confidence

Many of you have reached out over the last few weeks to ask about some ways that you can build your confidence when facing your next career move… And I’m so glad that you did!

This week on Episode 115, we’re talking all about how to find the courage that we need to overcome our fears. For so many of us, it’s not that we lack the skills or tools that we need to move forward and climb the career ladder, but rather, it’s often our fear of failure (and the like!) that winds up holding us back from truly moving forward with our career plans and other big dreams.

So today, let’s dive into that topic just a bit more by exploring a few ways that you can build the confidence that you need to tackle your next career move.

4 Steps to Building Confidence for

Your Next Career Move

Step 1 – Commit!

In order to see a dream or a goal through to fruition, it’s imperative that you first believe that it’s possible to achieve… and then fully commit yourself to it.

The more committed you are to taking the necessary steps toward your next career change, the easier it will be to cultivate the confidence you need to see your goal through…

Not only that, but the more committed you are to your next career goal, the easier it will be to face any naysayers who might question your career move in the first place. Because let’s be honest, not everyone you come across will be supportive of your plans all of the time, and this is especially true if your next career move comes with some risk or if you’re competing with someone else in your company for the position you have your eye on!

So commit to the career plans you have in mind, and keep that momentum going!

Step 2 – Find Your Courage!

If you’re fully committed to your goal, then it becomes easier to leverage courage to keep plugging away at it.

But what happens when your fears creep in and try to undermine all of the courage you may have already invested in yourself and your plans? It takes some practice to overcome, but I promise you that it definitely is NOT impossible!

Step 3 – Build Relevant Skills!

Does your next career move require you to take on more responsibility or that you expand on your existing skill set?

If this is true for you, then one of the best ways that you can become confident in yourself as you climb up the career ladder is to identify and to build up the skills relevant to the position you are vying for.

The more comfortable you are with the skills that your next position might require, the easier it will be for you to find the confidence you need to truly shine…

So do some research on the career move you’re considering or ask your superiors what skills they might expect you to have down pat in order to move forward in the position you want!

Step 4 – Practice!

One of the best ways to build up your confidence is to put it into practice.

Unsure of how to put this idea into motion? I’ve got a few tips to help you practice confidence so that you can implement it whenever you need it most…

Let’s take a look at three of my favorites!

1. Make a List of Your Accomplishments – Whenever you’re strapped for confidence or you’re having a particularly trying day, sit down and focus on all of the things you’re proud of, that you’ve accomplished in your career so far. By focusing on the positive, the easier it will be to overcome any negativity in your day!

2. Practice a Power Pose – If you find that your confidence is lacking, try striking a power pose! This is one of my favorite tricks, particularly right before I need to make a public speech; it can be great to put into practice when you’re faced with a job interview or important meeting, too!

3. Be Prepared – One of the biggest reasons we often experience low confidence levels is because we feel unprepared to tackle a task, project, or something else just around the bend. If your lack of confidence is holding you back, give yourself plenty of time to prepare for what’s to come! The more prepared you are to take on the challenge in front of you, the easier it is to find the confidence you need to power through.
